TAUNTON deserves more public art and the success of Taunton Live 2017 has fuelled this need.

The recent arts festival which ran from July 27-30 proved very popular as people could enjoy art, literature, poetry, dance, music and comedy.

This was the third year the festival has been held and each year it has grown in popularity with those taking part and from the general public who get involved in this family friendly event.

It helps celebrates a week of Diversity of Culture in Somerset, showcasing local artists and talent spanning all arts genres.

Jenny Keogh, Artist & Curator, CEO GoCreate CIC, Taunton Live Festival Organiser said: “Taunton Live 2017 was a huge success for both artists young and old.

Somerset County Gazette:

“It made everyone feel really proud of the support we go from so many artists and community groups.

“This year we had a number of pop ups which all helped to raise the profile of the event.

“We went to the Orchard Centre which was great as everyone who came along was doing Bollywood dancing.

“The centre was so pleased to have us they would like to have us for longer than a day next year.

"We were really pleased with the response we got from everyone as it was so positive.”

“It would be great to see more permanent art work around the town as I think it would be a great benefit to the town.

Somerset County Gazette:

“There is defiantly a need for more art outside and it would be great to see more public spaces have different pieces of art.

“We (Taunton Live) achieved so much during the week and the event has grown year on year.

“There are only two of us co-ordinating the event and to do more we need more financial help.

“This year we go £14, 500 from the Arts Council and £5,000 from the parish precept. So the whole event was done for less than £20,000.

“We will have a wash up meeting and see how we can go forward.

Somerset County Gazette:

“We’ve had an incredible week celebrating the Arts in Taunton and would like to thank Liz Hutchin for coordinating Taunton Live with the rest of the GoCreate team.”
