THERE'S plenty on offer at the Museum of Somerset this half term for parents and children

On Sunday, February 14, inspired by the 12th century Taunton Castle, the museum is holding Castle Day. There will be activities, re-enactments, crafts, dressing up and tours of the castle. The day is from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm, £3 adult, £1 child.

Throughout the half term week there will be fun and creative drop-in activities for children inspired by the first exhibition of 2016, New Dimensions.

This exhibition features the work of six artists who have produced contemporary artworks based on objects from the museum stores. Entry to the exhibition, which includes film, sculpture, poetry and textiles, is free with a £2 charge per child for activities. There is also a special 3D photography workshop for children aged eight to ten on Saturday 20. £5, booking required.

A visit to the museum will also provide a chance to see the precious Becket Casket while it is on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It was made in around 1180 to house relics of St Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, who was murdered by knights with Somerset and Devon roots. The exhibit continues until Saturday,April 2.

Throughout the week there is also a half term trail (£1) which guides children around the museum collections.
