Since it opened in March 2014, Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians has gone from strength to strength with lots of young people learning a great deal and having loads of musical fun on Saturdays in term-time from 9am-1.45pm.

Hestercombe CYM is part of the Guildhall School’s national strategy to deliver high quality teaching and learning in a long term sustainable training programme.

The HCYM timetable is designed to provide a wide range of activities based on each student’s needs and providing good progression routes within the morning’s activities. The timetable includes 2 aural classes, 3 brass groups, 1 general musicianship class, 2 guitar groups, 3 history and composition classes, 1 jazz ensemble, HCYM Orchestra, 3 piano groups, 1 pop group, 1 recorder group, 2 singing ensembles, 3 string groups, 3 theory classes, 2 woodwind groups. Individual lessons in singing, piano, guitar, bass guitar and orchestral instruments (with the exception of percussion)

All children (5-18) learning to sing or play an instrument can join HCYM and continue individual lessons with their current teacher. Students can join at any point in the academic year and no audition is required.

Fees are capped at the unbeatable rate of £27 per Saturday, representing fantastic value at just £5.68 per hour for top quality tuition. Fees are billed termly, and the average term length is ten weeks. We are delighted that a limited number of full or part-bursaries are available to families in Somerset who satisfy strict criteria, so those students can attend free of charge.
