IT'S a case of strike up the band at a special concert at Queen's College in Taunton.

Go Commando has teamed up with the college to bring the outstanding Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines from the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone to the town.

Alan Hardy, a Wellington resident and chairman of Go Commando and himself a former Royal Marine said: “Undoubtedly the Royal Marine Band is one of the finest military bands in the world and this concert promises to be an evening not to miss with a huge variety of music on offer”.

The Band of the Royal Marines supports major ceremonial, state and sporting event in the country, as well as extensively being in demand overseas. Each year the RM Bands come together for the annual Mountbatten Festival of Music at The Royal Albert Hall and showcase the massed bands at their finest. The Corps of Drums need to be seen to be believed and there is no other group of drummers in the world who can perform with such precision. It is truly an experience to behold.

Added Alan: “The evening is being staged as a charity fundraiser for the Royal Marines Charity Go Commando campaign, 360 for GC-Because We Care. This is a project to raise £360,000 to create a new Family and Community Centre in close proximity to the home of 40 Commando Royal Marines base at Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton.

The facility will not just be available to military families, but also the local community and is already gaining great interest and momentum from partner agencies supporting the project. Just a £360 contribution (more or less) is all it takes for a 1/1000th share in the project”.
