ITALY’S foremost tenor saxophonist Renato D’Aiello makes his Ilminster debut at the Arts Centre.
This must see concert for jazz fans takes place on Friday, June 22.
Born in Naples 1959 and resident in the UK since 1999, Renato D’Aiello is a brilliant and lyrical player whose professional career began when he started playing with the Giovanni Tommaso big band in Italy.
A full scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston followed and since then Renato has forged a glittering career that has seen him play with many big name musicians – Art Farmer, Claire Teal, and Bruce Adams among them – at festivals and clubs around the world, including top UK venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, the 606 Club, the Royal Festival Hall and the Wigmore Hall.
Renato’s treatment of jazz standards and originals are regarded as one of the strongest and most beautiful saxophone sounds in the jazz world today.
For this, his first appearance at Ilminster Arts Centre, Renato and his trio will be focusing on the smoother side of jazz - a timely opportunity for local audiences to see a highly accomplished musician, who has been hailed by critics as a ‘superlative saxophonist’ (Ian Carr), ‘a master improviser’ (Jazz UK), and the author of ‘one of the most attractive and tenor sounds in contemporary jazz’ (Chris Parker, Jazz CD review).
Tickets for the gig cost £15 (preshow supper £15 at 7pm, must be pre-booked) Advance booking for this unique concert is strongly recommended.
