Michelle Keegan and Jason Manford have been cast in a new BBC One drama from the makers of hit show Happy Valley.

The former Coronation Street star and the comedian feature alongside Max Beesley and Mackenzie Crook in Ordinary Lies, which looks at a group of colleagues working in a car showroom whose lives unravel as a result of their untruths and tall tales.

It is Michelle's first major TV project since she left her role as Tina McIntyre in ITV soap Corrie earlier this year. She will play receptionist Tracy, a party girl who longs for a life of luxury, while Jason plays Marty, a member of the sales team.

Writer and creator Danny Brocklehurst said: "I'm delighted to have attracted such an amazing cast to Ordinary Lies. This is a show I'm truly passionate about and it's a dream come true to be making such a bold series for BBC One."

Producer Tom Sherry said: "Ordinary Lies is full of gripping suspense as well as dark humour and should have audiences shouting at the screen 'Don't do it' - yet also laughing along with them."
