IN 1936, Charlie Chaplin released his silent masterpiece called Modern Times and now in the C21st Zoie Golding has created a modern dance sensation with RIDE.

This expressive dance theatre brings together a car called Stanley, three actors, a road trip and an experience unlike anything you would see achieved by any other group.

ZoieLogic Dance Theatre is bringing RIDE to Taunton when it will be putting on two free outside shows at 11am and 2.30pm by the Brewhouse Theatre on July 27.

Ahead of the performances, Zoie who is the artistic director explained how she conceived this idea and turned what had been something in her imagination into dance piece which thrills the audience.

Zoie said: "The concept is based on a road trip with three characters, a wrestling fan, a travelling backpacker and a business man who come together in a car (1980s Ford Orion) called Stanley.

"What we do with RIDE is for 20 minutes we create a world which engages people who would not perhaps go to the theatre.

Somerset County Gazette:

"What we do with this piece is to make the theatre magical where people's imaginations can be opened up.

"I was inspired by Chaplin and his interpretation of humour in film.

"RIDE is all about contemporary dance theatre."

One of the important elements of RIDE is the car a 1980s Ford Orion called Stanley.

It is called Stanley after the person who owned it as it was donated to the company by a family as they did not want it turned into scrap.

The car along with its three passengers tells the story of how these three men's paths cross and how they have to work together with themselves and the car to reach their destination.

Somerset County Gazette:

There is very little dialogue as a large part of the story is conveyed through the interpretation of dance and movement.

Zoie said: "We have amazing dancers who are very energetic and are helping to challenge the perception of male dance.

"They help to captured the audience as this is outdoor work and it makes them think about what they ware watching."
