Summer circus school at the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton helps youngsters to put on a show

But in Taunton, this week, a group of 14 children joined in with the circus when it came to The Brewhouse Theatre.

Actiontrack is holding a summer show building week called Running away with the Circus.

This is giving youngsters aged eight to 16-years-old the chance to learn drama, dance, singing and circus skills with the aim on Friday of standing on stage and performing in the show they created.

The creative five day summer school gave all the children a chance to get involved and show off their skills.

The classes were taken by Molly Rose-Crossley, Shaena Bramdle and Nick Brace who runs Actiontrack.

Molly said: “We have been teaching them drama skills, dance techniques, story building, song writing and teaching them harmonies and lyrics.

“What is great about this is there is such a creative and supportive atmosphere.

“We are interested in what the children are doing and how they grow rather than the end product.

“What has been good this week is seeing them be surprised by what they have done.

“Some of them did not think they were good at one skill or had been told they were no good, but then it is great to see them succeed.

“We are all working towards the show on Friday at 5pm.

“On Monday we had no ideas, nothing. Now we are half way through and we have three songs.”

The songs in question are called Out of the Hat, Confetti strongman and The Rainbow secret.

Nick who has been running Actiontrack for over 30 years said: “It has been really exciting this week.

“The kids have been happy and have been willing to try out different things like music, song writing, improvisation, dance and circus skills.

“What has been good has been their sense of adventure and excitement.

“It has been great to have watched them work together.

“After the show I hope they take away a sense of achievement at what they have done and how much they enjoyed it.”
