Coronation Street viewers are set to be stunned by a storyline that sees a businessman try to buy the Rovers Return and transform it into a trendy cocktail bar.

According to the Daily Mirror, Henry Newton, of the Newton and Ridley brewery that provides beer for the famous pub, will try to take over the Rovers and make Gemma Winter landlady.

Scenes for the storyline were filmed this week, sources told the paper, and the pair want to make the pub “more sophisticated” – and they even drew up a cocktail menu.

A source told the newspaper: “Henry decides he really likes Gemma and they get together this summer. As part of the relationship he tries to woo her by saying he will buy the pub and she can go from working in the kebab shop to landlady of the Rovers.

“Gemma is very excited and when Henry says he wants the pub to be more sophisticated she even starts planning a cocktail menu. But the plans won’t go down with regulars and if it goes ahead there would be an outcry on the Street as most people go in there for a quiet pint not a pina colada.”

Due to hit screens this summer, it is unknown whether Henry’s plot is successful or not.

Henry, played by George Banks, will develop stronger feelings for Gemma, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, over the coming months, it has been reported.
