YOUTH Orchestra South West gave its first public performance in Wellington School's Great Hall... and it went down a treat.
Under the baton of guest musical director, Pete Harrison and led by Wellington Sixth Former Edwin Chan, the players gave a stirring performance of Sibelius' tone poem Finlandia and a committed and highly convincing account of Bizet's Carmen Suite No1.
The irresistible Latin colour and vigour of the March of the Toreadors quickly transported the audience to sunnier and warmer climes.
The programme concluded with a suitably swaggering and swashbuckling rendition of Klaus Badelt's Suite from Pirates of the Caribbean.
The orchestra is looking for more players - email mail@yosw.co.uk for more information.
