PETER Pan saw dramatists from Stoke St Gregory reaping the awards as a reward for their sweat and toil in The 42nd Cinderella Awards.
The St Gregory Players scooped four gongs for their production of JM Barrie’s classic children’s story at the glitzy Winter Gardens event in Weston, at which over 450 pantomimers gathered for their equivalent of the Oscars.
Along with The Spotlight Trophy for the group as a whole, Peter Selby secured best musical director, John Penelhum was dubbed best villain as ‘Hook’, while Ann Finn picked up the shield for best original costumes.
Ann told the County Gazette: “We are very, very pleased. Peter Pan was a great show, and the most ambitious we’ve ever done.
We wanted to have flying, but couldn’t afford professional flying equipment, because that costs around £3,000.
But our stage team devised a way, and we think it worked very well.”
St Gregory players’ next production is the farce, ‘It Runs in the Family’at The Williams Hall in Stoke St Gregory; Wednesday to Saturday, June 4-7. Tickets cost £7 (£5 concessions) from Village Stores in Stoke.
