A SOMERSET County Council worker is getting the thumbs up from readers after self-publishing her own novel.

Deborah Latham, from Taunton, has recently published her novel 'Peter McLeish' - a thriller produced by SilverWood Books, Bristol.

It is not Deborah's first foray into the increasingly popular field of self-publishing, but she regards it as potentially her most successful to date.

She said: "The book has only just been launched, but I've already had a very positive 'review' in that the publishing assistant who worked on the book told me that she kept dipping into it when she was typesetting, only to find herself still reading ten minutes later.

"I'm hoping that other people will find it equally compelling."

The book opens with Jenny Gregory finding herself unexpectedly and violently drawn into a first encounter with police officer Peter McLeish in the Scottish Highlands.

Later, when the action transfers to the South East of England, she begins to learn that the consequences of that initial meeting have made her a target by association.

She discovers much about both Peter and herself as they are forced to decide whether to discard principles and loyalties in the interests of self-preservation, or to face the risk of ever greater personal danger.
