THE longest running show in the history of British theatre is coming to Somerset.

Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap has been performed more than 25,000 times, and now it is heading to The Playhouse Theatre, Weston, in what will be the venue’s biggest ever production.

The Mousetrap begins with a group of people gathered in a country house, cut off by the snow, who discover to their horror that there is a murderer in their midst.

One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment, the identity and motive of the killer are revealed.

Mark Thompson, of The Playhouse, said: “I’m delighted to announce the first large-scale production direct from London’s West End here at The Playhouse Theatre.

“The Mousetrap is not only one of the most fantastic productions ever created, but also the most iconic, having opened in London’s West End in 1952, cementing its position as the longest running show in the history of British theatre.

“As the first large-scale production here at The Playhouse I couldn’t think of a better production to lead our town’s home of live entertainment to the next level.

“The show has been loved by generations of people for over 62 years and is a fantastic opportunity to not only bring it to our town but also introduce new generations to one of Christie’s most celebrated works”

Performances run from Monday to Sunday, July 13-19, and tickets cost £23.50-£28.50 from the box office on 01934-645544 or online.
