THE Bridgwater Choral Society's winter and spring programmes promise a feast of music from the world's top composers.

First on the bill is Handel’s Messiah. This is a favourite with everyone, familiar, yet fresh and new every time you hear it. The choir will be joined by professional soloists and full orchestra, and the concert promises to be an exciting evening to remember. November 28, 7.30pm, St Mary’s Church, Bridgwater.

Then comes a concert of carols and Christmas music with tickets only £5 each with under-16s free. This event is a real family occasion to get everyone in the festive mood. The choir will be singing classic carol arrangements, and St Mary’s Primary School Choir will be performing too.

There will be plenty of favourite carols for you to join in with, accompanied by a brass quintet. December 5, 7.30pm, also at St Mary’s.

Looking ahead to spring 2016, Bridgwater Choral Society will perform two giant works. Mozart’s Requiem was written on his deathbed. Sometimes almost unbearably moving, always uplifting, this is on everyone’s ‘must hear’ list.

Haydn’s Nelson Mass was originally called ‘a mass for troubled times.’ Napoleon was cutting a swathe through Europe. Haydn’s musical response is humane and spirited, a talisman for us too in our own disturbed world. May 7, 2016, 7.30pm, St Mary’s.

Bridgwater Choral Society is always looking for new members. Why not pop along to their start-of-season rehearsal on September 2, 7.30pm at St. Joseph’s Primary School, Bridgwater – contact Sue Brownlie (01278

722344) for more details.

Or if you are looking for an opportunity to spend time with the choir before taking the plunge, come to their fun, informal Come and Sing Day where you can sing Handel’s Coronation Anthems. February 27, 2016, Wembdon Parish Church – again, contact Sue.
