Designers on Strictly Come Dancing and ITV drama Cilla have won top awards for their work.

The costume design gongs were handed out at the Royal Television Society Craft & Design Awards 2014-2015.

Strictly, known for its glitzy glamour, won in the entertainment and non-drama productions category, while Cilla – a hit biopic about the life of singer Cilla Black – came out on top in the drama category.

Speaking about Strictly, won by Vicky Gill, the jury said: “Crucial in helping the various celebrities develop as both dancers and performers, the jury recognised the enormous difficulties and technical achievement of the costume design and its role in creating the essence of the show itself.”

And about Cilla, won by Amy Roberts, the jury said: “In the jury’s view, rather than just create a narrow representation of a particular year, the imaginative approach to the costumes created a vibrant and engaging portrayal of an entire post-war period and very effectively supported the growth and development of the central character.”

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Fowler won the make-up design award for BBC’s Poldark in the drama category, and the Judges’ Award was given to the production team for BBC Two drama Wolf Hall.
