ON JULY 26, I was going to the Royal London One Day Cup cricket match at the County Ground in Taunton, so I parked in the Firepool car park, which is the car park used by spectators who enter using the Priory Bridge Road entrance to the cricket club.

When I got to the car park, after a long queue, it was chaos, with masses of people driving around looking for a place to park and a crowd of people around the two parking machines at the entrance, trying to make payments.

One parking machine was marked ‘out of order’ and although my passenger put money in the other machine, he could not get a ticket out of it, even though he put in more money than required.

He tried ringing the number displayed on the machine to explain what had happened but could get no answer.

Other people were in the same situation.

So we left a note on the dashboard of the car and went to the match.

Later, a text message was received on my passenger’s mobile, asking him to enter the registration number of the car, so that he could enter his credit card number to authorise payment. But as he had already overpaid, he ignored it.

On returning to the car park we, along with others, found we had received a parking notice.

We are appealing against this, but so far with little success.

I would be interested to hear from other people who had the same problems on the day, or have had similar issues with this car park.
