WHAT is happening to Taunton, the so-called ‘county town’ of Somerset?
We now have no market, no police HQ, St James swimming pool has been relocated out of town and Somerset College will now be the Bridgwater and Taunton College.
How long will it be before we lose the county town status?
The Brewhouse Theatre recently re-opened but will now be losing part of the car park close to the theatre to make way for more restaurants.
The Orchard complex is closing shops to make way for even more restaurants.
There are beggars and homeless in doorways and many streets in the town are dirty and littered.
Most streets have at least one charity shop which do not have to pay business rates and their turnover is probably more than some small shops.
Come on Taunton Deane, please clean up our town instead of wasting money on unnecessary things. Let’s release some of the money salted away overseas for councillors’ pensions and clean up our town.
