SOME years ago there was discussion about the siting of the cricket ground in Taunton

Some of us suggested that the centre of the town was not a suitable place for it and it should move to the periphery.

Instead, it has been enlarged and a good deal of capital spending on permanent structures has been incurred. A large block of flats has been built next to it.

We can now see the folly of that decision.

Firepool, which is available for development, is separated from the existing town centre by a large sterile area which makes planning for a new town centre very difficult.

Let us hope that more far-sighted decisions will be made in future.
