AT last, I thought! Will it happen? Yes it could, if the council takes a harder line.

The number of times I have driven up through Hammett Street to see plastic bags of rubbish left out overnight ripped apart by wildlife and the contents strewn across the pavement/street.

This habit of putting out bags of rubbish the night before has to stop.

If it means someone starting work before 9am to put the rubbish out, then so be it.

If every shop owner and/or resident is made responsible for the immediate area outside their property to be kept clean and tidy, as they do in Germany, with fines handed out accordingly, we might then see a cleaner County Town.

The article in the County Gazette mentions ‘516 litter bins across the borough’. Sounds a lot, but is it?

Is there action in place to deal with persons who feel the need to discard their takeaway wrappers anywhere other than a litter bin? Not from where I’m sat!

My front garden seems to be a better place than the litter bin 30 yards further on.
