ON Friday, July 14 I was a passenger, along with another female and the driver, also female, on our way to Wood Street car park.

We stopped before we reached the car park for a driver in front of us, who had stopped in the middle of the road, vacating his car. It seemed that he had a problem with the passenger door.

He had left his driver’s side door open and we could have gone round him, but would have had to mount the pavement.

We waited for him to get back in his car and he was very courteous to us, a real elderly gent.

Not, may I add, like the person behind us driving a St Margaret’s Hospice van.

Almost in our boot, sounding his horn, shouting abuse at us to go round him and various kinds of gesticulations.

We parked in Wood Street car park and noticed that he parked on St Margaret’s Hospice furniture shop yard.

We didn’t go over to confront him - we wouldn’t bring ourselves down to his level.

He may be a volunteer driver for St Margaret’s, in that case I suppose doing something for free and giving up his time for a worthy and respected cause. Good outweighs bad.

However, if he is a paid employee of such a worthy and respected cause, his aggression behind the wheel and verbal abuse leaves much to be desired as regards his advocacy to St Margaret’s.

I dare say, if it had been three men stopped in front of him he would have kept his hand off the horn and his foul mouth shut!
