OUTSTANDING service in the care sector was recognised at the sixth annual Care Focus Somerset awards held in Taunton.

The awards celebrate individuals and organisations, and finalists were selected from over 200 nominations from private, independent, voluntary and public, health and social care organisations.

The winners were presented with a trophy and a floral bouquet by the host, former BBC Points West presenter Chris Vacher.

Jennifer Hodgson, who won one of two Outstanding Care and Support Worker awards, works for Bishop’s Hull-based Cream Care.

Julia Hammett won the Outstanding Volunteer Award for her work at the Clovermarle Stroke Club based at the Albemarle Centre, Taunton.

Julie Pollard, of the Rectory Care Home, Taunton (run by Maners Care), won the Newcomer to Care Award, sponsored by Somerset College, and the Judges’ Special Award.

Sonia Maslen, of Tauntonbased Way Ahead Care, won one of two Outstanding Care or Support Worker Awards.

The Rectory, in Taunton, which is run by Maners Care, won the Care Home Award.
