EQUILIBRIUM supports people in Somerset struggling with a very distressing but invisible condition.

Bipolar disorder is a serious mental health condition which often occurs as a reaction to a trauma or when work, study, family or emotional pressures are at their greatest.

It is an illness characterised by extreme mood shifts from depressive lows to manic highs.

Equilibrium’s staff have provided services for people affected by bipolar for 22 years, and have supported nearly 7,500 people with bipolar and nearly 1,600 carers.

They provide advice, information and support through helplines, one-to-one consultations, support groups and self-management training programmes, and services are designed to help people with bipolar stabilise their condition.

Bipolar can be frightening and exhausting, and your world often seems completely upside down when you receive the diagnosis. Not only is your health in jeopardy, but so is your financial security, relationships and employment.

Without support, people can become increasingly isolated; of all mental health conditions the highest number of suicides are those with bipolar disorder.
