KIERAN Neale is going the extra mile for charity this spring – by running three half marathons in three weeks.

The marketing manager is taking to the streets of Somerset in aid of Diabetes UK and lives in hope that some day pioneering research will be able to prevent the condition.

Kieran, 33, of Taunton, will run first the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday, before heading to Yeovil on March 25 and completing his trio of runs at the Taunton Half Marathon on April 1.

The inspiration behind the challenge is his sister, Emma.

He told the County Gazette: “The impact on Emma’s life since her diagnosis with diabetes has been huge.

“It has been a constant struggle for her to cope with fluctuating blood glucose levels, despite diet control and injections of insulin up to four times a day.

“I’m doing this because I like a challenge and I want to see if I can actually do it.

“But I thought I might as well do it for a good cause at the same time and Diabetes UK is my natural charity.”

About three million people across Britain are diagnosed with Diabetes, something Kieran hopes to reduce through his fundraising.

He added: “My sister has had type 1 diabetes since she was two. Any funds, small or large, that go towards research for preventing it would be great.”
