THE BRITISH public are asked to ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ – but a freelance science writer says the best way to do that is through ‘Mindfulness’.

Writer Celia Kozlowski has been researching the science of mindfulness and has found studies show it can help with a range of physical and emotional traumas.

Mindfulness training can ease symptoms of multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain, eating disorders, hypochondria, mental fatigue following stroke and recovery from substance abuse.

Dr Miranda Bevis, mindfulness teacher at The Terrace in Taunton, said: “Scientists are starting to understand how Mindfulness works.

“By studying practitioners’ brains, researchers detected changes which suggest Mindfulness reshapes the brain for better control in sorting out emotions and signals from the body – like pain.

“Instead of reacting automatically, a brain toned by Mindfulness chooses more deliberately which impulses get attention and crafts a healthy response.”

Employees at Google are offered Mindfulness training, which has improved performance, relationships and job satisfaction, while lowering stress, absenteeism and employee turnover.

Taster sessions will be held with Dr Bevis on Tuesday, April 9, at 6.30pm and Wednesday, April 10 at 9.15. To book, call 01823-338968 or email post@the-terrace.co.uk.
