YOU can enjoy a black-tie, three-course meal AND help a Taunton Paralympic hopeful this May.

Wheelchair tennis ace Lucy Shuker, who trains at Taunton Tennis Club in Blackbrook, is holding a fundraising event to raise money for her training ahead of September’s games in London.

The evening includes a three-course gourmet meal, raffle, auction, and band/disco and takes place on May 5 at 7pm at the County Ground, Taunton.

For tickets, at £40 each, email lucyshuker@hotmail.com or 07764-489588.

Lucy is one of Britain’s top wheelchair tennis players, and is one of the hopefuls for a medal in this year’s Paralympic Games in London in September.

In 2001, at the age of 21, Lucy was involved in a motorcycle accident leaving her paralysed from the chest down.

As part of her recovery, she took up tennis and now travels all over the world competing against the top players.

She has played in events including the Australian Open Grand Slam, Roland Garros in Paris, Wimbledon and the last Paralympic Games in Beijing.

Lucy has the support of Tone Leisure and trains at Taunton Tennis centre with local coach Natalie Ayton and James Quirk. However, in order to continue to train and compete Lucy has to raise money.
