A NEW two-session parent course has started at a Taunton health centre.

Clinical psychologist Karen Green and holistic therapist and former head teacher Irene Cox have created the course at The Terrace, based in Staplegrove Road.

The idea is to offer parents the opportunity to meet in a supportive, confidential, environment to explore ways of increasing their parenting skills and confidence.

Karen said: “Being a parent is exciting and rewarding but brings challenges to the most confident of parents.

“Some parents may feel they don’t know how to respond or feel they need someone to talk it through with.

“As children develop, their changing needs create many new demands. Needing to adapt our parenting can raise uncertainties about our decisions and responsibilities as we try to do what is best for our children - whatever their age and especially at times of stress and change.”

The two three-hour meetings which form the course give the opportunity to meet other parents to explore topics relevant to parenting, supported by professionals with considerable experience working with children and families.

The meetings explore how to encourage children’s development, concentration, motivation and promote positive social relationships, positive emotions, and respectful behaviour. It is open to anyone in a parenting role.
