‘LOW cost finance, free sunshine roofs or a year’s supply of petrol.’
They were just some of the offers available for motorists looking to buy a new car in Taunton in August 1980.
A motoring feature in the County Gazette also backed the notion of buying British cars – produced for ‘the most cosmopolitan car market of them all’, so the article boasts.
Among the models on offer was the Princess HLS Saloon, with a choice of three engines – the 1700, 2000 or six-cylinder 2200.
Price reductions on offer included £100 off a new Mini 850 – taking the price to £2852 – up to £500 off the top Princess – taking the price down to £5741 – and Dolomite models as part of the Superdeal ‘80 promotion from Langport’s BL Cars.
