STAFF at a Somerset cloth firm got to see the finished products of their work during a special exhibition – held in the canteen at the factory.

Employees at Fox Bros & Co Ltd, in Wellington, were able to take a good look at garments made from their materials during an Exhibition of Cloth in January 1965.

Several hundred employees had a look around the exhibition, including those pictured, which was ‘professionally-staged’ in the canteen at the Tonedale factory.

The company sales director said at the time the firm’s biggest competition came in the form of textiles produced in Italy and Japan.

However, Fox Bros was enjoying a period of sustained success in the mid sixties, with exports from the Somerset factory worth more than £1 million a year.

  • Can anyone remember owning a jacket like this featuring such plush Somerset-made cloth? Did you work at the factory?
