A 10-YEAR-OLD pupil from Blackbrook Primary school won the final of the Write Here, Write Now regional competition.
Genna Orton’s script, written jointly with fellow pupil Rebecca Hookins who left the school shortly after, was the continuation of an introduction by TV writer Phil Redmond, scooping the prize in October 2001.
Her play was called The Christmas Vase, and had to be finished in the style of writer and producer Redmond, famous for shows including Brookside.
The entrants chose from a list of four categories and their entry was selected out of 15,000 others as the best, with an inventive storyline about a vase being stolen as a Christmas present by two brothers.
Genna’s prize was a visit to London to a special awards ceremony in December and tickets at the Globe Theatre.
Her play was also to be included in a book to be published containing all the winning entries, and she wins her school £100 worth of books and £100 worth of CDs.
