Four chess players at Kingston St Mary Primary School show off awards they won at the Somerset Primary Chess Championships.
Leading the way was Daniel Mitchell, who became Somerset under-nine champion.
He won nine out of 11 games at the championships, held at Stanchester School, Stoke-sub-Hamdon in the week of February 21, 1997, and was asked to play for Somerset at the South Wales and West of England Championships later that year.
Roz Strange and Laura Cottey won five games in the under ten age group, and Ashley Vaughan won five out of 11 in the under-nines.
The popular chess club, attended by 30 of the 90 children at the school, was run one lunchtime every week by Mike and Sue Strange.
