YOUNG autograph hunters at Taunton's Temple Methodist Church were reaching for the stars in an effort to raise money for organ repairs.

More than 60 celebrities from all over the country have put their name to the project.

It was all part of an autograph auction to help meet a £14,000 target for cleaning and overhauling the church organ, which was built in 1877.

Heather Nation, who along with husband Paul, pictured, was responsible for the auction, said i the week of March 6, 1987, the first autographed item received was a copy of Barbara Cartland's latest book, and after receiving dozens of autographs, they also received a signed tie and card from Steven Spielber.

Heather said: "Youngsters wrote about 100 letters and sent them off, and we still have loads coming in."
