Former Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson

FORMER Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson, the man who guided the Glovers into the Football League, is now looking for further glory.

Johnson left Yeovil in 2005 to join Bristol City and he will be hoping to see his side get a good result in this lunchtime's Championship play-off semi-final first leg match at Crystal Palace.

No doubt City will be disappointed not to be already basking in the glory of promotion to the Premier League, but a bad run of results in the latter stages of the season saw them have to be content with a play-off spot.

Palace, meanwhile, are in good form and have stormed up the table under manager Neil Warnock after a terrible opening few months.

Like all the play-offs - this tie is a difficult one for people to predict the outcome.

But I have got a gut feeling that Bristol City could go all the way.

Now is the time for players to stand up and be counted and Johnson is a master at getting the best out of his players when it is needed most.

Only last weekend Johnson said on Sky Sports said that there was "no point in reaching the play-offs, if you don't go on and win them."

It is no different to when he was at Yeovil and told me ahead of the Glovers' FA Trophy Final with Stevenage Borough at Villa that it was not just a case of "going and having a good day out."

"It only becomes a good day out if you win it," he told me.

No doubt he would have been giving his players at Bristol City the same kind of message this week in readiness for tomorrow's match at Selhurst Park.

Supporters may remember when Yeovil, with Johnson at the helm, started to wobble a bit on their way to the League Two crown in 2004-05. But, when it mattered most, the players did the business and clinched the title.

Three years on and with Johnson at Ashton Gate, who is to say that the man who brought the longed-for Holy Grail of the Football League to Huish Park, might be on the verge of bringing the Premier League to Bristol City?

The second-leg of the Bristol City/Crystal Palace semi-final takes place on Tuesday, May 13, at 7.45pm at Ashton Gate.

Both legs are live on Sky Sports TV.
