Lydeard beaten in low-scoring clash
BISHOPS Lydeard got their season underway at the second time of asking and fell to an 11-run defeat away to Cheddar in a low-scoring WEPL Somerset Division match.
Batting first, Cheddar struggled throughout and were bowled out for 100 in 42 overs.
Only three players made it into double figures against Lydeard's accurate attack with Mark Thomas (4-12 from nine overs) and Justin Burke (4-20 from 13) having the upper hand throughout. Spinner Brian Stone weighed in with 1-14 from eight, while P. Nicholls top scored for Cheddar with 34.
However, Lydeard found it equally tough and were in desperate trouble after slipping to 48-6.
They were back in the game after getting to 75-6 but the final four wickets fell for just 14 and they were all out for 89 in 36 overs.
Captain Nick Taylor top scored with 18, while R. Wynne snapped up 5-31 for the hosts.

LYDEARD, whose opening game against Barrington was cancelled, are away to Frome this Saturday.
