Fire at Obridge scrap yard

CROWDS gathered at Taunton's Obridge flyover tonight (Tuesday) as flames engulfed the Taunton Deane Direct Labour Organisation depot at Priorswood.

Fire crews were called to the scene where several cars where on fire and their gas tanks exploding.

Crews were called at around 7pm and set to work to put out the flames.

Watch commander Dave Downs said: "There were a lot of vehicles involved, possibly oil tanks and rubber tires.

"Five engines attended with approximately 60 personnel.

"We used foam to put out the fire and will be checking back in about two hours to make sure everything is still ok."

The Gazette was on the scene to catch the action - keep checking this website for the video footage tomorrow (Wednesday).
