Former Yeovil Town ace is up for grabs

FORMER Yeovil Town star Gavin Williams has been released from Championship side Ipswich Town.

Williams, possibly one of the most gifted players to have donned the green and white shirt of Yeovil in recent years, is one of five players being released by the Tractor Boys' boss Jim Magilton with the others being Billy Clarke, Dan Harding, Matt Richards and Gary Roberts.

Williams has been hampered by injury ever since he left the Glovers midway through the 2004-05 season for West Ham United in a £250,000 move.

He later saw a loan period at Championship side Ipswich Town turn into a permanent £300,000 move in January 2006.

Yeovil signed Williams from old rivals Hereford United just days before the Glovers' FA Trophy Final against Stevenage Borough in 2002 and he met his new team-mates during a tour of Aston Villa's Villa Park stadium ahead of the showpiece occasion.

Williams, who will be best remembered for the way he would seemingly glide across the pitch and go past players with incredible ease, went on to make 110 appearances for the Glovers in all competitions. He also netted 21 goals - many of which were memorable.

Although there has been no speculation made about it, Yeovil fans would dearly love to see "Super Gav" back at Huish Park.
