Ex-Taunton hooker joins All Blacks
FORMER Taunton youth player Glen Cooper is hoping to help the Cornish All Blacks win promotion back to National One after signing for the Launceston-based club last week.
The former Castle School pupil left Redruth to join the All Blacks, who were relegated at the end of last season.
The All Blacks' joint head coach Jon Hill was delighted to capture the 26-year-old, who he spoke of in glowing terms.
He said: "Glen Cooper is one of the best, if not the best, hooker National Two.
"He's the sort of hooker that we are renowned for here at Polson (All Blacks' ground) - he's blood and guts and and not afraid to put his head in where it hurts."
Cooper, who has toured with the England Counties squad, said: "They (the All Blacks) are a good side and it should be a good year in National Two. Hopefully I can play a part in getting them promoted straight back up."
Cooper started his full-time career with Bath before moving to Plymouth Albion who he left to join Redruth. He left for National One-side Newbury where he spent three season before returning to Redruth.
Meanwhile, Cooper was in action at Taunton's Hyde Park last Saturday, where he helped Somerset to a 37-17 victory at home to Middlesex in the Bill Beaumont County Cup.
It was Somerset's third game in the competition and, although they have won two of their three South Division games, they missed out on a Twickenham final against North winners Yorkshire as Devon defeated Gloucestershire 10-6 to clinch top spot.
