Government backs Taunton plans

PROPOSALS that will bring thousands of new jobs and homes, more shops and improved leisure, sporting and cultural facilities in Taunton has been approved by the Government.

Taunton Town Centre Action Plan has been praised by Government planning inspector David Fenton for its strong partnership approach and clear vision.

The plan will help deliver the key Project Taunton regeneration sites at Firepool, the County Ground and Coal Orchard, either side of High Street, castle Green and Tangier.

The action plan is part of Taunton Deane's local development framework, a planning document that will replace the existing local plan and shape the development of the town centre for the next 20 years.

It has been prepared in partnership with Project Taunton, Somerset County Council, the Local Strategic Partnership, the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
