Team work at Heathfield

8:19pm Friday 18th July 2008

YEAR 10 students at Heathfield Community School, Monkton Heathfield, took part in the annual performing arts and enterprise days last week.

Students had the opportunity to get together in small groups to work in a team-building project.

The year group took part in workshops including juggling, break-dancing, magic and music as well watching an improvisation performance by the group Instant Wit.

The main activities were different to previous enterprise days and involved 20 business partners joining a group of 10 students to help form a band that performed in the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre during the afternoons.

The students also had to produce a press release, marketing strategy and bid for a gig venue at a mock auction.

The aim of the experience was to teach students life-skills such as team-work, problem-solving, money-management and creativity.

Students were introduced to the new performing arts course that starts in September 2009 for post 16 students.

It will be run at the Space, a facility being built next to the Tacchi-Morris.

The creative and media diploma in performing arts is equivalent to three-and-a-half, A-levels.
