Langport and Huish Youth Club backed by councils
A YOUTH club has thanked Langport and Huish Episcopi councils for their support in helping to keep its projects going.
Annie Shillabeer set up the independently-run Langport and Huish Youth Club in April 2011 after Somerset County Council withdrew funding in November 2010.
Annie and other volunteers have transformed the club over the last 12 months, reaching out to youngsters across the area with trips out and activities from the club’s base at Ridgeway Hall.
Annie said: “It is great that both councils are supporting us and I want to say a massive thanks to them.
“I felt we could offer a place for youngsters to keep them off the roads and we have a good structure in place now.
“We have children from 11 years old up to 16 and 18, when they start to become volunteers – all our volunteers deserve a mention because they are amazing.”
Langport Town Council initially agreed to provide financial backing for a yearlong trial project, with a review of progress after six months. It has since approved the remaining 50% of funds for this year after hearing regular reports from the club.
The club is open on Tuesday from 6pm to 8.30pm.
It meets at Ridgeway Hall, on Staceys Court in Bow Street, Langport.
