RILEYS sports bar in Taunton has officially closed down, head office told the County Gazette.

The bar, on Station Road, was home to two snooker teams and several darts and pool teams who have all had to find different venues across town for the league matches.

St Andrews Club, on Kingston Road, have accommodated the snooker teams while various pubs including the Kings Arms, the Black Horse and the Railway Club are helping out the seven darts teams that were left without a home venue.

Three Wednesday night pool teams have moved to The Grove, Henry's and Railway Club while one Monday night team moved to The Wagon in Priorswood.

Rileys has been bought by private investors but closed 25 clubs across the country - a move which saw 146 jobs lost nationwide.

Maurice Kelly, CEO, Rileys Sports Bars Ltd said: “We are desperately sorry that we could not take everyone with us.

“Cash flow and trading difficulties has forced this administration and there have also been on-going issues with the smoking ban and changes to the Gambling Act which disadvantaged commercial snooker clubs.”
