AROUND 200 pupils from Trull Primary School have signed a community banner supporting the re-development of the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury.

It’s part of a campaign by the Somerset Heritage Service, which is applying for backing from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The bid is similar to the Museum of Somerset project, which was completed last year after a £7million re-development.

Stewart Biddles, acting head teacher at Trull, said: “The Rural Life Museum is such a valuable resource for schools and truly brings history to life for children.

“We wish them the very best of luck with their fundraising and hope they-re able to raise the £1.7million needed to make the museum a historical resource that will last into the future.”

Plans for the Somerset Rural Life Museum, which attracts over 30,000 visitors a year, include improving physical and intellectual access to the museum and its collections to provide a dedicated space for learning and community activities, and improve visitor facilities.

David Hall, Somerset County Council cabinet member for heritage services, said: “We’re asking the public for their support with this exciting project.

“Their signatures will not only help raise the profile of the bid, but will also become part of the story of the new museum in a display of how we came together as a county to protect and promote our heritage, creating a lasting legacy.”
