Mobile website launched for Exmoor

VISITORS to Exmoor can get information about the area on the move with the first dedicated destination mobile website in the South-West.

Visit Exmoor’s new mobile website is touchscreen-friendly, while faster download speeds, a tabbed layout and tailored navigational links make it easier and more intuitive to use on smart devices, particularly out and about.

It contains all the information on the main website, such as where to stay, eat and find activities, but will be available to a much wider audience with the rise of smartphones.

When was the last time anyone had signal, let alone a decent 3G connection on the Exmoors :P

Seriously though, the website isn't very well optimised, it's almost 2mb in weight, that's enormous for a website aimed as a desktop browser.

Shame they didn't check their site against the easiest, most freely availably performance checkers out there.

Oh well.

I have just been on the website with one bar of signal and it worked just fine and looks ok.and that's on my Sony experia.looks better on iPhone and iPad.

Interesting, even with one bar of signal you may still have a 3G signal. Difficult to say how well it'll perform "in the field"... pun intended :-)

I've disabled 3G and WiFi on my iPhone and it's very slow to load, very tempted to go and try it when I'm next out in those parts.

I think a stripped down home page with the option of continuing to the mobile site or a 'find nearest hotspot' search would have been a good idea - on EE I can't get a signal in parts of Lynmouth let alone the 'wilds' of the moors, listing available hotspots before losing the signal completely would be very useful!
