STUDENTS at West Somerset Community College swapped lessons for workshops run by young scientists to learn about potential careers in industry.
As part of The Cheltenham Science Festival, the Careering Around sessions allowed year 9 youngsters to ask scientists and engineers about their jobs ahead of making career choices at A-level.
EDF Energy, the festival’s principal education sponsor, sent employees who have been trained as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) ambassadors to get involved.
College assistant principal Marguerite Bowden said: “A morning like this is a great chance for students to meet with people from industry.
“One of the ambassadors was actually a former student here, showing existing pupils just what’s possible.”
