A CAR driver suffered injuries after his vehicle smashed into a road sign outside The Plough in Station Road, Taunton, this afternoon (January 9).

The incident, involving a silver Citreon Xsara, happened at 2pm and left a road sign at the junction with Priory Bridge Road damaged.

A lampost was knocked into Gemma Louise hair salon and joint owner Gemma Southby said she thought a lorry had hit her hairdressers.

She told the County Gazette: "There was a massive bang - I just hope there is not too much damage."

An ambulance was called to the scene and officials have been called to remove oil which was spilt on the road.

The road remains open to traffic.

Such a shame that they didn't knock down the Traffic light that so many people stop at when they are turning onto Station Road!

I thought that was the whole point of having traffic lights for, when it is red you stop.

Maybe I am just stupid but I think I read in the highway code, that red means stop and green means go.

You need traffic lights there otherwise there would be so many accidents.

Station road today from 1pm to 3pm was busy and congested, priory bridge road was wall to wall traffic going towards Morrisons, but going out was more easier.

One accident on the M5 or Wellington and Taunton comes to a grinding halt.

Sadly of late the only news has been of accidents and now fires. Bring on the Summer.
