First published in News

A TOTAL of 12 motorists were arrested for drink-driving by police in Taunton and Wellington during December.

They provided positive tests after police stopped and breathalysed 189 drivers as part of their festive season campaign.

Insp Stuart Bell said the festive period in the patch had been “relatively quiet”, but added: “Domestic violence is always a problem at this time of year and we attended a number of incidents.”

I am very surprised to see that only 189 drivers were stopped during the month of December. This averages only 6 cars per day; and during one of the busiest times of year? I witnessed many drivers over the festive season who gave me the impression that they were under the influence of alcohol. They may have just been bad drivers, who don't know we drive on the left-hand side of the road... Judging by the figures, it looks like many people got away it. Lets hope that the next time they take to the road after consuming alcohol, they don't kill someone.
