A HARD-HITTING campaign has been launched to convince smokers in Taunton Deane and West Somerset to quit.

A series of new TV adverts show a tumour growing on a cigarette while it is being smoked to illustrate how tobacco binds and mutates a person’s DNA.

What a visual. Electronic cigarettes can help you kick “butt”, plus e cigs offer a great way to relieve stress while weaning yourself off tobacco. http://www.electroni

Just charge £5 for a cigarette and then perhaps the nhs can cope with the problems smokers create. I'm fed up of having to wait several weeks for nhs physio for a sports injury, yet weak and lazy smokers get millions chucked at them over campaigns that don't work. Let them die of cancer, they made the choice to smoke, no one forces a cigarette into their mouths and lights it!

A hardened smoker won't give a **** about the price - does a drug addict worry how much his/her next fix will cost? All we'll get is a bigger black-market trade in smuggled fags and baccy.
What works better than all these adverts (my wife wondered what it was growing from the cigarette in the advert) is to spend a week or so in hospital, recovering from an operation.
NO SMOKING for several days prior to the op - and no smoking afterwards (although patients are still allowed to nip outside for a fag - crazy!) while on the ward.
By the time you get home you've begun to hate the smell and the taste of cigarettes - get over the craving and it's job done!
(What operation did my wife have? Bowel cancer .....say no more.)
