Ministers say at least 40% of students should be achieving five good GCSE grades.
FIGURES showing how well students are performing at secondary schools across Taunton Deane and West Somerset have been published.
The latest league tables show all 12 state and independent schools in the area are meeting the minimum standards expected by education bosses, by getting 40% of students to achieve at least five A*-C GCSE grades, including English and maths.
Heathfield Community School at Monkton Heathfield topped the charts, clocking in with 78% - a rise of 5% from last year
Another high-flier was The Castle School, Taunton, which improved for the fourth consecutive year as 77% of students achieved at least five good GCSEs.
But while some schools have shown improvement, others have seen their figures fall.
Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe scored 67% - a drop of 2% - and Bishop Fox’s School, Taunton, dropped by 5% to 53%.
There were also falls in results at The Taunton Academy, Court Fields School, Wellington, and West Somerset Community College.
King’s College topped the list of independent schools, with every student achieving at least five good GCSEs.
Taunton School scored 88% and 86% of students at Wellington School made the grade.
Queen’s College dropped considerably – down from 89% to 77% and the third year in a row it’s failed to improve on previous results.
