THE snow failed to deter children from trying out the first official EVENT youth club session in Cotford St Luke.

The club was set up to fill the gap in youth provision in Cotford and will run on certain Fridays each month.

Sessions include games, challenges, competitions, music and a space for youngsters to meet with friends.

Manager Keith Brindle said: “Despite the snow we still had 15 children turn up for the first session.

“They had a great time and I’m very happy with how it went. On a cold January night, 15 kids were in a warm place having fun with their friends.

“The volunteers – people from the village who recognise the worth of the club – have been absolutely great at getting stuck in with activities, and being friendly and welcoming.

“We’re very grateful to them for giving up their Friday nights.”

Charlotte Smith went along and said: “It was really friendly and there were really good activities.

"I used to go to the youth club in Bishops Lydeard, so it’s nice to have one in our own village.”

Her brother, Aaron, said: “It’s really nice because everyone’s welcome there. It’s good to have somewhere to see friends and I’ll definitely be going again.”

All youngsters aged 11 to 16 are welcome to attend for £1 a session at the school hall.

Upcoming dates for the youth club are February 1 and 22 from 7.30pm to 9pm.
