MIXING with Hollywood stars is just another day at the office for movie writer Matt Graham.

But he admits he never feels more at home than when he is back in Hatch Beauchamp with his family.

Matt, 33, is taking a break from writing his latest series, The Untold History of the United States, which will be aired on Sky Atlantic in April.

He said: “I love coming back and taking a walk on the Quantocks – it’s a wonderful landscape and Somerset is very much in my blood.”

Renowned film director Oliver Stone recruited Matt, known as ‘The History Man’, to liven up the script for the series, which has just finished in the United States.

He said: “Oliver had always wanted to do a history TV series, and he is a bit intimidating, but gets the best out of people – you learn to develop a thick skin.”

Matt moved to Hatch Beauchamp from London when he was young and went to Taunton School where he found his love for writing about history and crime.

Soon after finishing school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film writing.

He said: “My theory is you can do whatever in life, so you might as well go for it – so I did.”

Matt said he meets so many celebrities he does not gets starstruck anymore.

He said: “When you see the celebs so often, you don’t think about it so much.

“But I met Macy Gray at a bar in West Hollywood and spoke to Paris Hilton in a club – but didn’t get her number – and was nearly run over by Harrison Ford on a bike on Hollywood Boulevard.”

Matt is going back to Los Angeles next week and says his work routine for writing has to involve strong coffee and loud music.

He has just finished a crime novel called The Night Driver and a feature film he co-wrote called Cannon Fodder, which he hopes will be released this year.

He said: “Watch this space.”
