Pigs return to Orchard Shopping Centre, Taunton, after make over Pigs return to Orchard Shopping Centre, Taunton, after make over

TWO of the wooden pigs that used to 'live' in Orchard Shopping Centre, in Taunton, were back there today.

They have undergone a makeover by two local artists and are about to embark on a Snout and About tour of the town.

They will then be auctioned off to raise money for The Brewhouse theatre and arts centre.

People at the unveiling this morning welcomed the return of the pigs.

But what do you think of their makeover?

Let us know.

Outrageous. This is not art. I remember sitting on the old ones as a kid. Cant allow that with these! Looks like a gang of yobs have been at them. What a waste of time (and no doubt money).

WTF ... That's not the pigs I knew when I was younger!... " the orchard " or as it will be always known as " The pig market " has turned into a joke

Quote: "They will then be auctioned off......" Can't see there being many bids for these now-vandalised ex-pigs.

Drop them off at the recycle centre when you've done with them......

Whilst I have no problem with modern art, I dont think this should of been allowed to happen to these pigs.

Something new yes, 'refurbishing' the pigs no!

Saw them today at Taunton library. Thought they looked rather good. The photo does not do them justice.

Well I would sit on them, although perhaps not the prickly one. I sat on these when I was little, everything else in Taunton has changed since so I dont see why these would be the exception. :)

My daughter (aged 7) and I came across the pigs when they were in the library - and we both LOVED them! It was so sad to hear that the pig seats had finally succumbed to the elements and so wonderful to see them brought 'back to life' like this, when they could just have easily been scrapped once they started to rot..
Of the 2 works, we both found the Polden Pig a little intimidating but very powerful.
However, the one that held my daughter enthralled was the Pigsaw. I loved it too, but my daughter's reaction was lovely - she just stood and looked at it for ages, obviously fascinated, and then talked about it for the rest of the day. She told Granny about it in great detail at lunch - she's obviously taken it all in, and was raving about how wonderful it was to anyone who'd listen! I was so pleased to see such a great reaction to a work of art - she never normally stands still, and yet she stood there gazing at the Pigsaw, and she doesn't normally talk about things she's seen but she went into great, enthusiastic detail about the Pigsaw.
Please could we have postcards of it? I know one 7-year-old who would love one!
